Life is indeed an unexpected journey. The sole essence of life is most likely, to enjoy. Wherever we may be, whatever we may become. Honestly, Cambridge or even shifting places from United Arab Emirates to United Kingdom has been the least on the list. But probably when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I have been vocal of this profound transition. Something I was apathetic about. But there was something between the pandemic and the urge to go back home made me take that IELTS and luckily made the cut. And yes, everything was going well in the desert but there is always that thought that everything is always temporary for an expatriate like me. The painstaking waiting game of NMBI gave me another choice, to proceed with NMC, and everything just hits the right spot, anywhere but London. London, a beautiful place for tourists but not for people who seek solace like me. And that sly time between my IELTS expiration and eagerness to be out of my comfort zone again made everything right. Right time. Right place. Right people. That is how this journey started. Probably the city rang a bell, or made my ears flutter. Probably the thought of being the epitome of education and scientific explorations enticed me, but beyond that, I was just another person prepared to face the challenges of life. So beyond the uniform, let me take you to another chapter of my life. Currently thirty four. OF FRIENDS, COHORTS AND STROLLSHonestly, I haven't used the term "cohort" for the longest time, and if I had, it was for specific cases in the hospital. Later did I know that we will soon share success, failures, emotions and the likes, time and even memories. To my long-term friends, who took time to visit me in my early weeks/months in Cambridge. For miles and miles they traveled, from trains to buses and even their cars. I am always blessed to have them. WHAT TO DO IN CAMBRIDGEProbably the most common question any person keeps in mind when travelling. I might not be an expert with this but here are the things I like living in this charming city (except the high cost of living)
1. MARKET SQUARE - Cambridge is a market city, and stalls have been trading in the historic market square since the Middle Ages. 2. PUNTING - Punting is a quintessential British activity, and paired with the atmospheric sights of some of Cambridge University's most iconic colleges (we are looking at you, Kings College Chapel) it is an almost inevitable must-do on any trip to Cambridge. 3. FITZWILLIAM MUSEUM 4. STROLLS IN THE PARK 5. FOOD FINDS - Oh the diversity of food choices in this city. I can safely say that I worry less whenever I go out to satisfy my cravings. Now I know I have not explored much of the city but probably these are just simple pleasures that satisfy life. Combining the hustle and bustle of a small city with many parks and surrounding green areas, Cambridge is a great place to live for anyone looking for a good balance between city and country living. They say “A woman's intuition is her guardian angel.” I have been a living witness to that all my life. I remember not following my parents not because I was a rebel but my instinct told me so. Some made me grounded, the other made my father threw a fit, and so did I. Then I resorted to raising that white flag. And just like my degree... my profession... my career... but not my passion. It is never my choice but I ended embracing it as what any other child is destined to behave. But this path made everything clear. That along the way, I have learned to embrace life, know resilience and a life-long learning. Of life, work and people. I could not elaborate what happened in between the decade but most of it boils down to taking a leap of faith. The minute a resignation letter is handed and take that next step, be it crossing borders in Singapore to Dubai to taking that Dubai Health Authority Exam for Nurses. To choosing employers from Star Homes to transitioning hospitals in Prime and AHD. It has always been a bumpy and fun ride. From testing my waters in English exams to choosing between Ireland and UK while enjoying being a UAE resident and all its perks. I know I am blessed. I may not have my parents physically but they are always there guiding over me. My mother's faith illuminates as my father's words of wisdom resonates. My sister has her way of things. Something peculiar yet manageable. Indeed, I would never survived life without all the support. Knowing I have family and relatives waiting back home, friends and colleagues (former and present) knowing me for since the beginning of this adventure called life. I have always been fortunate to have met people in this lifetime. |
